The Stand

The Stand   2007   oil on canvas   36" x 24"

In yoga, there is this pose called Tadasana, which is the standing mountain pose. Solid, firm, unmovable. Yet, even in this centered pose, other figures move and plate tectonics shift and energy unfolds in many ways. Plants grow, light shifts, everything is in a constant state of change. In this painting I hope to capture the sense of balance and stillness of the centered stand amidst the changing energy dynamics going on all around. On a color note, I challenged myself to not use my favorite yellows and oranges in this painting.
